Health Care Fascists

Right-Wingers accuse the Obama health care reform as being Fascist. Phony grass roots organizations are packing town hall meetings to drown out questions or debate. They are not interested in working to fix a health care system that is a disaster. They are trying to maintain the status quo. They are shills for the insurance industry who are spreading lies and misinformation about the health care proposals to frighten those who refuse to obtain correct information on their own and prefer to be lead by Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck and other professional loud mouths. Goodbye, GM By Michael Moore

Technorati Tags: michael moore , GM , General Motors , Economy June 1, 2009 I write this on the morning of the end of the once-mighty General Motors. By high noon, the President of the United States will have made it official: General Motors, as we know it, has been totaled. As I sit here in GM's birthplace, Flint, Michigan, I am surrounded by friends and family who are filled with anxiety about what will happen to them and to the town. Forty percent of the homes and businesses in the city have been abandoned. Imagine what it would be like if you lived in a city where almost every other house is empty. What would be your state of mind?   It is with sad irony that the company which invented "planned obsolescence" -- the decision to build cars that would fall apart after a few years so that the customer would then have to buy a new one -- has now made itself obsolete. It refused to build automobiles that the public wanted, cars that got great gas mileage, were as ...

Russian parliamentarian demands end of U.S. blockade of Cuba

MOSCOW, September 29.— Ivan Melnikov, the Russian vice president of Parliament, has called on the United States to end its economic, commercial and financial blockade of Cuba, in place for almost 50 years, and the repeal of the anti-Cuban Helms-Burton Act. Speaking at the Parliamentary Assembly of the European Council in Strasbourg in the name of the European United Left, Melnikov harshly criticized the policy of economic siege used to directly pressure sovereign states, Prensa Latina reports. The persistence of the blockade constitutes discrimination against Cuba and third countries, the likewise vice president of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation said, referring to commercial sanctions included in the Helms-Burton Act.   Melnikov asked the Parliamentary Assembly’s Bureau to ask the U.S. government to repeal its discriminatory and anti-Cuban laws, including the Torricelli Act. At the same time, the communist leader exposed how Washington, acting as if it wished...

What Kincaid Won't Tell You About Obama's 'Mentor'

I post this because it is important to counter the virus-like spread of Cliff Kincaid's anti-Obama propaganda. Cliff Kincaid's Aug. 15 Accuracy in Media column proclaims that the Barack Obama campaign's debunking of Jerome Corsi's Obama-bashing book "acknowledges on ... that the mysterious “Frank” in Obama’s 1995 book, Dreams From My Father, is in fact the Communist Party USA (CPUSA) member Frank Marshall Davis," insisting that the admission "can only add to growing public concern about Obama’s relationship with a Communist pawn of Moscow who was the subject of security investigations by the FBI and various congressional committees which examined Soviet activities in the U.S." In an Aug. 17 column , Kincaid complains that the Obama campaign's debunking "doesn’t identify Davis as a hard-core communist and it dishonestly edits an article about Davis to eliminate references to his admitted involvement in CPUSA activities and make t...

The Real Legacy Of The ‘Reagan Revolution’

Posted on Jul 15, 2008 By Robert Scheer McCain campaign co-chair Phil Gramm is right: We have “become a nation of whiners.” But who is whining more than the bankers that former Sen. Gramm’s financial deregulation legislation benefited? The very bankers who now expect a government bailout, such as those at UBS Investment Bank, where Gramm found lucrative employment. As chair of the powerful Senate Banking Committee, Gramm engineered passage of legislation that effectively ended the major regulatory restraints applied to the financial industry in response to the Great Depression. The purpose of the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act—co-authored by Gramm, passed in 1999 by a Republican-controlled Congress and signed by President Bill Clinton—was to liberate the banks, stockbrokers and insurance companies from restraints imposed on their activities more than seven decades ago. It was legislation that the financial community, which contributed heavily to Gramm’s...

FBI Files indict Bush, Cheney And Co. As War Criminals

By Bill Van Auken 23 May 2008 Originally published on the World Socialist Web Site The most stunning revelation in a 370-page Justice US Department Inspector General’s report released this week was that agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation had formally opened a “War Crimes” file, documenting torture they had witnessed at the Guantánamo Bay US prison camp, before being ordered by the administration to stop writing their reports. The World Socialist Web Site , together with human rights groups and other opponents of US militarism and repression, has long insisted that the actions of the Bush administration—the launching of wars of aggression, assassinations, the abduction and detention of civilians without trial and, most repugnant of all, torture—constitute war crimes under any legitimate interpretation of longstanding international statutes and treaties. To have this assessment confirmed, however, by the IG of the Justice Department, the only senior official there not ans...

Condi Must Go

Sign the " Condi Must Go " petition. I have doubts anyone will ever do anything about the crimes the Bush administration has been involved with. This is a sad state of affairs for the USA. How many more blatant lies must we be told to our faces to put an end to this abomination of a government. Thomas Jefferson was so god damned right when he stated: "Prudence, indeed, will dictate that governments long established, should not be changed for light and transient causes; and, accordingly, all experience [has] shown that mankind are more disposed to suffer while evils are sufferable than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But, when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same object, evinces a design to reduce [the people] under absolute despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such government, and to provide new guards for their future security." -- Thomas Jefferson: Declaration of...

4000 US Dead

4000 by ~ davidbdr on deviant ART 4000 US soldiers  (officially) dead in GW Bush's pathological war for resources and a permanent foothold in the Middle East. 4000 is not nearly the monumental numbers of Iraqi dead but these deaths are just as needless.

There’s Nothing Mainstream About The Corporate Media

by Harvey Wasserman As we stumble toward another presidential election, it’s never been more clear that our political process is being warped by a corporate stranglehold on the free flow of information. Amidst a virtual blackout of coverage of a horrific war, a global ecological crisis and an advancing economic collapse, what passes for the mass media is itself in collapse. What’s left of our democracy teeters on the brink. The culprit, in the parlance of the day, has been the “Mainstream Media,” or MSM. But that’s wrong name for it. Today’s mass media is Corporate, not Mainstream, and the distinction is critical. Calling the Corporate Media (CM) “mainstream” implies that it speaks for mid-road opinion, and it absolutely does not. There is, in fact, a discernable, tangible mainstream of opinion in this country. As brilliant analysts such as Jeff Cohen, Norman Solomon and the Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting (FAIR) organization have shown, the “MSM” is very far to the right of it. ...

Sad Excuse For "Creativity"

Aquadots , another crap toy claiming to be creative has been recalled because the coating on the "beads," when ingested, form the GHB compound. This is toxic to young children, and in higher dosages, adults. This is just one more product that suffers the "production at lowest cost" syndrome that is standard operating for big business these days. Lowest cost only includes actual monetary cost. Safety, cost to workers and other factors are not considered. This is what happens when products are produced in sweat shop type factories by barely paid and abused workers. Even though China claims to be Communist, it is just another in the long line of State Capitalist governments pissing on Marxist ideology. Capitalists love slave laborers no matter what flag they reside under.   The toy itself is junk. It is marketed as a toy for four years old and above but there are many "parents" who seem to think it is appropriate for it to be around toddlers, who will put a...
