Important! News From Gaza On 9th and 10th August 2014

I am posting this by request of a friend in Gaza. Gaza on 9th and 10th August 2014 The security situation in Gaza Strip is confusing! The Israeli air raids did not stop all night and day! In their air raids in the past 24 hours, they demolished more than 100 homes of civilians! For instance, last night in 30 minutes in border town of Rafah, they attacked an area with 30 missiles from F16s heavy bombers! In the meantime, those Israelis conditioned that they will not join the indirect talks with the Palestinian delegation in Cairo except when the Palestinians stop launching rockets at Israel; the Palestinians stopped their military reaction! It was weird and confusing! At the humanitarian level, some of the displaced people have returned to their somehow damaged homes but it is still in a reasonable condition to stay in! This is following saying: "No place like home" or "Home sweet home"! Some others returned during the 72 cease fire period; they wanted to re-es...

Cause Announcement from Palestinian Refugees Right to Return - Al-Awda

Dear All  As you know, Israel seized and confiscated 19,000,000 donums of Palestinian land which makes 93% of Israel's area. Now Israel passed a law which effectively allow the sale of this land to any Jew any where. Adalah alerted all to this grave development. The report: " Dividing War Spoils " at this link: http://www.plands.org/store/writing/Selling%20Refugees%20Land%20Sept%202009.pdf summarizes the history and suggests recommendations. Maps and Tables are from the "Atlas of Palestine 1948" and Adalah's compiled data of 1953/54 confiscation. This subject should be raised in every forum. An Open Letter: Father To Father

Bassam Aramin writing from occupied Jerusalem, Live from Palestine, 7 August 2008   Ahmed Mousa (facing camera) photographed four hours before he was shot and killed by Israeli forces. ( palestinesolidarityproject.org )   Dear Hisam, father of Ahmed, may he rest in peace, I learned of the death of your son, Ahmed Musa , through a one-sentence newsflash on the Palestinian news station Ma'an last Tuesday: "Ahmed Musa, a young boy, was killed by a bullet of the occupying forces in Nil'in." I was immediately overcome with shock and grief and bitter tears. And above all, that relentless feeling of powerlessness that I know too well. We Palestinians cannot protect our children from being killed. Not because they are soldiers on the battlefield, but because we cannot imprison them in our homes. They must live their lives, play outside the house, go to school. We tell ourselves that there must be in our land a safe place to protect our little ones. Should not our...

Israeli Claims over Journalist Challenged

Published on Friday, July 18, 2008 by Inter Press Service by Sanjay Suri / Mel Frykberg LONDON - Medical reports seen by IPS appear to confirm the testimony of IPS Gaza correspondent Mohammed Omer of physical abuse at the hands of Israelis last month.0718 04 1 Omer said he was physically and mentally abused at the Allenby crossing into Gaza while on his way back from a European tour. In London, he was awarded the Martha Gellhorn prize for investigative reporting.Omer left for Europe through an agreement secured by Dutch diplomats to escort him in and out of Gaza. The abuse was reported Jun. 26 as Omer was searched at the crossing in Israeli custody while a Dutch diplomat waited outside. According to Omer’s testimony, he was forced to strip by an Israeli officer wearing a police uniform. He was pinned down on the floor with a boot on the neck. He says he collapsed during interrogation, and when he came round his eyelids were being forcibly opened. He was then dragged along ...

4000 US Dead

4000 by ~ davidbdr on deviant ART 4000 US soldiers  (officially) dead in GW Bush's pathological war for resources and a permanent foothold in the Middle East. 4000 is not nearly the monumental numbers of Iraqi dead but these deaths are just as needless.

A Message From Carlos Latuff Against Israeli Aggression

Mensagem do cartunista brasileiro Latuff, em português e árabe, ao povo palestino, por conta da agressão israelense contra Gaza/Message from Brazilian cartoonist Latuff , in Portuguese and Arabic, to the Palestinian people, regarding the Israeli aggression against Gaza.  A Rough English Translation, thanks to Tony ( Palestinian Pundit ), of what Carlos said… This message is to the Palestinian people in Gaza and the Palestinians everywhere. As you know, since 1999 I have been supporting the Palestinian struggle with my art, political cartoons and words. I constantly follow the news of your suffering and the slaughter inflicted on you by the Israelis. In spite of the distance between us I am always with you. I am sorry that the cartoons cannot stop the missiles. I do everything to raise my voice in your support. The Zionists have tried to silence this voice. I am with you completely. I am united with you and I suffer with you. The Palestinians are different from other people. You...

Cartoon Exhibition For Palestine

HANDALA 2007 Handala means bitterness. It’s the name of a desert plant growing in Palestine. It was also the name of a cartoon figure–a boy who never shows his face, created by famous Palestinian cartoonist Naji al-Ali . Naji al- Ali was assassinated in 1987 while living in London. This means 2007 will be the 20th anniversary of his death. A cartoon exhibition featuring the works of world wide cartoonists will commemorate Naji al-Ali and 60 years of Israeli occupation. This exhibition will be accompanied by painting action with international and Palestinian cartoonists on the Wall. Workshops in schools with schoolchildren and college students in Ramallah, Abu Dis, Jenin, Nablus, Al Khalil, Tulkarem, Bil’in etc.

Tragedy in Beit Hanoun

Report by Jameela al-Shanti in Beit Hanoun (*) . Yesterday at dawn, the Israeli air force bombed and destroyed my home. I was the target, but instead the attack killed my sister-in-law, Nahla, a widow with eight children in her care. In the same raid Israel's artillery shelled a residential district in the town of Beit Hanoun in the Gaza Strip, leaving 19 dead and 40 injured, many killed in their beds. One family, the Athamnas, lost 16 members in the massacre: the oldest who died, Fatima, was 70; the youngest, Dima, was one; seven were children. The death toll in Beit Hanoun has passed 90 in one week. This is Israel's tenth incursion into Beit Hanoun since it announced its withdrawal from Gaza. It has turned the town into a closed military zone, collectively punishing its 28,000 residents. For days, the town has been encircled by Israeli tanks and troops and shelled. All water and electricity supplies were cut off and, as the death toll continued to mount, no ambulances ...

More On Press Freedom

Obviously, I take the position that no censorship is acceptable. It doesn't matter to me if the views being expressed are the most Fascist Right-Wing madness or Anarchist silliness. Everyone must be able to have their views heard. Today, no longer do those who own the presses control what gets printed. Two nights ago, I received an email from a gentleman who likened me to Hitler, Goebbels and Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and that I should feel shame for my cartoons. Again, criticism of Israeli government policies is Jew hatred! I find this tiresome and am not going to defend my position for anyone. I have stated many times that all forms of terrorism must stop. I believe everyone has a right to a country of their own and I also object to Israel's attempts to expand it's borders by occupying territory. Israel's assaults on the Palestinian people remind me of a song by Roger Waters on his "Amused To Death" CD from the early 1990's. The Bravery Of...

Military Occupation

This is my most recent cartoon done as an entry in the Irancartoon "Military Occupation" exhibition. Some clued me into the following poem. It seems so appropriate. Ozymandias I met a traveler from an antique land Who said: Two vast and trunkless legs of stone Stand in the desert. Near them, on the sand, Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown, And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command, Tell that its sculptor well those passions read, Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things, The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed, And on the pedestal these words appear: "My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings: Look upon my works, ye Mighty, and despair!" Nothing beside remains. Round the decay Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare The lone and level sands stretch far away. -Percy Bysshe Shelley 1792-1822

Peace, Propaganda & the Promised Land

Peace, Propaganda & the Promised Land provides a striking comparison of U.S. and international media coverage of the crisis in the Middle ... all » East, zeroing in on how structural distortions in U.S. coverage have reinforced false perceptions of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. This pivotal documentary exposes how the foreign policy interests of American political elites--oil, and a need to have a secure military base in the region, among others--work in combination with Israeli public relations strategies to exercise a powerful influence over how news from the region is reported. Through the voices of scholars, media critics, peace activists, religious figures, and Middle East experts, Peace, Propaganda & the Promised Land carefully analyzes and explains how--through the use of language, framing and context--the Israeli occupation of the West Bank and Gaza remains hidden in the news media, and Israeli colonization of the occupied terrorities appears to be a defens...
