A New Position?

Apparently, there was a new position created in the executive branch of the US government. According to Hillary Clinton during Tuesday night's televised presidential debate: "You know, I have been a critic of NAFTA from the very beginning. I didn't have a public position on it because I was part of the administration . But when I started running for the Senate, I have been a critic," Clinton said. Huh? Since when did the "First Lady" become part of her husband's administration. She wasn't elected to any position. I don't recall Hillary being appointed to any position.  I could be wrong though. Bill did set her off on the health care cause but I do recall complaining about the fact she wasn't part of the administration. Maybe she ran the country while Bill's pants were done around his ankles... Source: http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20080227/pl_nm/usa_politics_dc_74

So It Has Begun...

I feel like crap. I've been sick with some foul strain of the plague or something for two weeks now. I can't seem to shake it off. I'm nauseous all of the time and get the occasional case of gagging. There doesn't seem to be a reason for the dry heaves but the ravings of some ding-dong bloggers set off a spasm. It seems the first salvo across Barack Obama's bow has been fired by the terrified wing-nuts on the Right. They must be poopin' their britches watching a black man possibly become president of the USA. Oh yeah, dear god, he's got one of those A-rab soundin' names too! The wing-nut's cut and past frenzy seems to mostly consist of bits of a wonderful piece of red baiting by Cliff Kincaid , one of the great minds at Accuracy In Media .  Accuracy In Media claims to exist to publish the truth about "liberal biased reporting in the media." They do this by countering with a cock-eyed Conservative slant. So much for accuracy, I guess. Well...

Message From Fidel Castro

Dear compatriots: Last Friday, February 15, I promised you that in my next reflection I would deal with an issue of interest to many compatriots. Thus, this now is rather a mess The moment has come to nominate and elect the State Council, its President, its Vice-Presidents and Secretary. For many years I have occupied the honorable position of President. On February 15, 1976 the Socialist Constitution was approved with the free, direct and secret vote of over 95% of the people with the right to cast a vote. The first National Assembly was established on December 2nd that same year; this elected the State Council and its presidency. Before that, I had been a Prime Minister for almost 18 years. I always had the necessary prerogatives to carry forward the revolutionary work with the support of the overwhelming majority of the people. There were those overseas who, aware of my critical health condition, thought that my provisional resignation, on July 31, 2006, to the position of ...

There’s Nothing Mainstream About The Corporate Media

by Harvey Wasserman As we stumble toward another presidential election, it’s never been more clear that our political process is being warped by a corporate stranglehold on the free flow of information. Amidst a virtual blackout of coverage of a horrific war, a global ecological crisis and an advancing economic collapse, what passes for the mass media is itself in collapse. What’s left of our democracy teeters on the brink. The culprit, in the parlance of the day, has been the “Mainstream Media,” or MSM. But that’s wrong name for it. Today’s mass media is Corporate, not Mainstream, and the distinction is critical. Calling the Corporate Media (CM) “mainstream” implies that it speaks for mid-road opinion, and it absolutely does not. There is, in fact, a discernable, tangible mainstream of opinion in this country. As brilliant analysts such as Jeff Cohen, Norman Solomon and the Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting (FAIR) organization have shown, the “MSM” is very far to the right of it. ...
