Bush Said WHAT!

Image
Putin was just named Time magazine's "Person of the Year" for imposing stability that restored Russia as a world power. "I presume they put him on there because he was a consequential leader," Bush said. "And the fundamental question is, consequential to what end? What will the country look like 10 years from now? My hope, of course, is that Russia is a country that understands there needs to be checks and balances ." Oh My God! Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! Does the Idiot In Chief actually hear the steaming horse shit that spews from his mouth? What an f'n hypocrite. If any white House reporter actually had a set of balls, one of them might have called this bastard on that statement but, of course, that would never happen.

Report From Rep. Wexler On Impeachment Petition

We have already reached 100,000 supporters. Thank You. Now We Need Each of You To Send an Email to Ten More People to Get 250,000 Signed Up at WexlerWantsHearings.com by the End of the Year.   I can guarantee that your 100,000 voices calling for impeachment hearings will now be heard in Congress. Together, through our new Quarter Million Person Challenge, let's now set a new goal of 250,000 Americans signing up to demand action.   It has been just 5 days since I called for impeachment hearings for Vice-President Dick Cheney and already over 100,000 people - including you - have answered that call by adding your name as an impeachment supporter at www.WexlerWantsHearings.com . This is a truly remarkable response that demonstrates the power that average, everyday Americans can have when we come together to pursue justice and accountability.   Never mind that the national media ignored my call and rejected an op-ed that I wrote along with my Judiciary Colleagues Rep. Lu...

A Case For Hearings

By Representatives and Members of the Judiciary Committee: Robert Wexler (D-FL), Luis Gutierrez (D-IL), and Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) On November 7, the House of Representatives voted to send a resolution of impeachment of Vice President Cheney to the Judiciary Committee. As Members of the House Judiciary Committee, we strongly believe these important hearings should begin.   The issues at hand are too serious to ignore, including credible allegations of abuse of power that if proven may well constitute high crimes and misdemeanors under our constitution. The charges against Vice President Cheney relate to his deceptive actions leading up to the Iraq war, the revelation of the identity of a covert agent for political retaliation, and the illegal wiretapping of American citizens.   Now that former White House press secretary Scott McClellan has indicated that the Vice President and his staff purposefully gave him false information about the outing of Valerie Plame Wil...

The Golden Compass And The Religious Right

Image
By Hiram Lee 15 December 2007 Originally p ublished on the World Socialist Web Site Email the author   Directed by Chris Weitz, screenplay by Weitz, based on the novel by Philip Pullman   The Golden Compass is the first in a planned trilogy of films based on a series of novels for young readers by Philip Pullman. Pullman’s novels Northern Lights (released in the US as The Golden Compass ), The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass , comprising a trilogy entitled His Dark Materials , have received numerous awards and have found a readership numbering well into the millions. Pullman, alternately described in the press as an atheist or agnostic, has invested in his books a critical attitude toward religion.   The film adaptation of Golden Compass has been attacked by right-wing Christian fundamentalist groups who claim the movie promotes atheism, deceitfulness, the occult, and even the killing of one’s parents. It almost goes without saying that such claims are ...

STOP The Police State Bill

The Senate will vote this week (as early as Tuesday) on two critical measures: The Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act and the Peru Free Trade Agreement . Already passed in the House, both bills will be taken up in the Senate this week and both issues need your attention. Read more below and use the links to take action!   STOP the Police State Bill   The Senate is about to vote to criminalize thought and shred the first amendment, unless we stop them .   This flawed and dangerous legislation , T he Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act of 2007, HR 1955 , introduced by Rep. Jane Harman , was passed on October 23, 2007 , with only four Democrats and two Republicans voting against it. The companion bill in the Senate, S. 1959, will be voted on soon, as early as Tuesday.   Why do we need this bill? We already have laws that allow the police to arrest perpetrators of violent crimes. Could the real purpose of Harman's bill be to create a ...

Thank You Christian Nutters!

Image
Until information about the forthcoming film The Golden Compass came out, I was not familiar with Philip Pullman's novels. Thanks to the standard issue Christian boycott hysteria and misinformation campaign, I have become intrigued by the stories and intend on reading the books and more than likely, seeing the film. Organized religion has done more to turn people away than any book, I must say. While it is impossible to answer the question of God, it is possible to say declaratively that organized religion has been a detriment to Mankind. How much oppression, death, torture and destruction caused by Man in God's name do we need to witness before all sane people reject this madness?   As usual, the Christian freak-out over a new film will do nothing but drive audiences to it. I would have thought they would have learned from The Last Temptation Of Christ film melt-down they all had back in the 80's. I guess the stupid never learn.   His Dark Materials Trilogy (The ...
